When Architect & Developer Jason Boyer approached me for his new brand and website, I was beyond thrilled. Seven years before this project, Jason was my very first brand and website client with his project artHaus and now he was back with an incredibly innovative project — bringing his 4 companies under one single parent company (Boyer Vertical) while retaining their own branding and identity.
Boyer Vertical is an architect-led real estate development firm that brings sustainably-minded architecturally significant projects to life and is the parent brand to Karma, Proper Living, Jason Boyer Architects, and artHaus. The Boyer ecosystem covers everything from designing, developing, building, and then managing the properties Boyer Vertical develops. So from the very concept to the management of the property, Boyer is involved and invested in creating homes and spaces that match the desired lifestyle of its home buyers and residents.
As happens with such unique projects, Jason came to me with very specific needs for his new website and brand. He requested that it be accessible, user-friendly, relatable, and memorable. He also requested that the new brand be grounded in 3 very specific traits — elegant, simple, and compelling. And so I set off to create an elegant website for a real estate development firm.
Having worked with Jason before, I was thrilled to have the opportunity to take what we did with artHaus to the next level. This project was different from my normal projects simply by nature of the needs, but also because working with another designer/architect tends to mean engaging with more of a collaborative design. For this project, I brought the initial ideas and then Jason and I went back and forth to fine-tune the end results. And voila! An elegant website for a real estate development firm was born.
There’s just something special about working with another designer on a brand because we can get deep in the weeds about letterform, graphic design, and color in relation to architecture and other common design principles. And like any good designer, Jason helped to test the boundaries of the design to land on the final design.
I also happen to have a background in interior design and architecture. Prior to getting my master’s degree in graphic design, I studied interior design and architecture and then went on to work at a landscape architecture firm and an architecture interior design firm — which makes projects like this one extra fun for me.
Personally, I think I nailed Jason’s request for elegant, simple, and compelling on the new Boyer Vertical brand and website, but you can check it out and decide for yourself.
